I love a good book store, and recently found one in Kerrville, Texas. I visited it quite soon after arriving in town, when we were pulled over for failing to observe that the speed limit had dropped to 35.
For book lovers adept at avoiding small-town speed traps, I recommend a visit to Wolfmueller’s Books, adjacent to the courthouse and across the street from the Arts Center.
This shop specializes in used and rare books, has a substantial general collection, and an excellent representation of Texana. Bargain books are available, as are signed editions of more current books. Several locked cases display the more valuable items, including editions of Steinbeck and A. A. Milne.
As more bookstores disappear from the face of the earth, it’s nice to find one where one can browse happily for an hour or even two. After which a meal at the Rails Cafe, a few blocks away (past the police station), is recommended.
